This wine has very clear varietal character, deep red colour; the bouquet is rich, with pleasant, dark small berry fruit and touches of chocolate. Lovely rich plum, dark berry, blueberry and blackberry fruit floods the well structured, layered, complex palate; the oak is subtle on the finish. It has smoothness to its palate weight and a lingering finish. Great for drinking now, but will only improve with bottle age. In 2005 a greatly reduced amount of fruit was produced due to two severe hailstorms. What was left was considered liquid gold and demanded excellent wine making. The grapes were soft pressed extracting only the premium juice and produces a softer wine. The Merlot was made in two batches, one hot and one cold ferment. The hot ferment imparts the tannin, and alcohol - the richness of the wine.  It is balanced with the cold ferment which provides the soft and delicate flavours of the grapes themselves.Look for a rich bouquet with pleasant dark berry fruit and touches of chocolate.
